One, doubled, a copy, a fake, two fakes, two of the same fake, identical, One. This is The Valley, where the 2 become 1… or two.
The Valley is a place where man and machine have merged and the boundaries between lifeless bodies and animate machines have blurred. The Valley is a place of doubles. Where two become one, only to duplicate again, as it becomes unclear where one thing ends and another begins. What is a replica of which? Playing on the line of what is natural and what is artificial the performers use objects to make sounds and sounds to make movements as they question what is really in control. By dwelling in the ambiguous grey zone, in the valley of the uncanny, they bring to focus the double meaning of mechanical humans, artificial nature, organic machines and synthetic gardens. This double meaning puts off the soothing comfort of the perfect symmetry, the perfect mathematical order.
We are forced to deal with cognitive conflicts in everyday life, when we find ourselves in unfamiliar situations. In days where the virtual is valued as a real world, we are asking ourselves what is a representation of which? Instead of juxtaposing the artificial and the natural, can we experience them together as something real, as a synchronized concept? When the line between what is genuine and what is false becomes obscured, the valley deepens and ambiguous meanings arise.

Inga and Rósa started their collaboration 6 years ago at the start of their education in P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. They have collaborated on at least one dance performance each year since and performed their work at both art museums and in theatres around Europe. In this hour long performance Inga and Rósa continue their investigation on the relationship between sound and movements as in their previous performances (Wilhelms Scream and RadioDance), now playing on the line of what is natural and what is artificial exploring the concept of ‘the uncanny valley’. The Valley was premiered at Reykjavík Dance Festival in November 2015. In June 2016 they received the Icelandic Theatre Awards Griman for the category ‘Choreography of the Year’ for the work. In the fall of 2016 Inga and Rosa were commissioned to make a new production for the Icelandic Dance Company, Da Da Dans, celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Dadaism. Da Da Dans was premiered on 12th of November 2016 having 5 performances at the Reykjavík City Theatre with excellent receptions. www.ingaandrosa.com
Rósa Ómarsdóttir is an Icelandic choreographer based in Brussels. She studied dance and choreography at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts and at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels from where she graduated in 2014. In 2015 Rósa received a DanceWeb scholarship to attend Impulstanz. She has made several performances with Inga Huld Hákonardóttir, Radiodance and Wilhelm Scream amongst them, and latest The Valley and Da Da Dans a production of the Icelandic Dance Company premiered in November 2016. She is currently conducting a research project called Secondhand Knowledge together with Ásrún Magnúsdóttir and Alexander Roberts,where they travel different countries that a are in some way peripheral to the central European dance scene, and work with local dance artists there.
Inga Hákonardóttir is an Icelandic dancer/choreographer living and working in Belgium. She studied in P.A.R.T.S, Brussels, graduating in 2014. Inga has created several works with Rósa Ómarsdóttir: The Valley, Wilhelm Scream and Radiodance and a work with Kathryn Vickers, Slogan For Modern Times which have been shown extensively in Belgium, Germany, Iceland and France. She collaborated and performed in creations with; music ensembles ICTUS and GAME in Ballet Mekanique, directed by Tom Pauwels, choreographer Salva Sanchis in Islands and Radical Light, as well as Eleanor Bauer in her recent work Meyoucycle. On November 2016 Inga premiered a new work with Rósa Ómarsdóttir for Icelandic Dance Company called Da Da Dans
