- All that you can´t leave behind
“All that you can´t leave behind” is a dance performance in the format of a concert. It is the first song and dance of a music album that Halla Ólafsdóttir and Franz Edvard Cedrins are currently working on.
In an ongoing project devoted to a voyage through different perspectives on the concept of shapeshifting they’re operating simultaneously as instrumentalists, composers, dancers and choreographers playing with a bubbling metamorphosis of dance and sound. Between the nonhuman and human, between language, music and phonetics, making up ways of defining oneself and one’s own universe.
The shapeshifter has the ability of transforming and reshaping right down to the genetic and cellular structure. The shapeshifter can enhance it’s body, change into others or become different entities and genders, all at the same time. It can impersonate others as well as turning into indefinable creatures and monstrosities, animals and entities. This, is done so that you may carry the power and abilities of a specific organism with you when you need it. To borrow the lions courage in times of hard decisions, to borrow the sly manners of a crafty pike fish to hide in the reed when that sort of thing becomes necessary or to become an eagle when you really need to get over that distant mountain. Qualities that can save your life. But within this also lies a challenge. It can frankly be straight out dangerous to stay in one and the same shape for too long.
“All that you can´t leave behind” is about leaving your body and all its labels, finding a new to place to levitate in and letting yourself shapeshift into several different creatures at once.
Extremely scary and tremendously pleasant at the same time.
