MDT seeks new theatre director
MDT, with one stage and two studios on a small island in central Stockholm, presents and arranges performances, showings, festivals, talks, and conferences in a never ending stream, and has during the last decade earned a central position in the international dance field. Choreography and dance are the guiding concepts, but here they are represented in several, and often innovative ways.
MDT’s work is widely communicated and one of our goals is that the productions we stand behind should play extensively, nationally and internationally. We support the artists we represent and produce, and help them build a firm platform from which to work and develop. Over the last years we have fine-tuned this model of production, which currently involves 8 employees as well as a number of freelance producers, technicians and performance hosts. MDT has funding from the Swedish Arts Council as well as from the City of Stockholm and the Stockholm County Council. Funding also come from a range of other funding bodies, and MDT is currently partner in 2 larger EU-project, one ongoing and one pending. MDT now seeks a new theatre director, on a four year contract, with possibility of renewal. As our director you should be able to take the main responsibility for future programming and artistic development of MDT, in close dialogue with both employees and artists. You will also have the main responsibility for leading the employees in their daily work, as well as to ensure the continuous funding and development of the organisation, in dialogue with the board of MDT.We are looking for a person with well documented leadership experience from cultural organisations, both in terms of creating a good working environment and in terms of planning, funding, budgets and a familiarity with accounting. We would expect you to have knowledge of the contemporary field of performing arts, and be able to work within (and preferably expand) our developed international networks. You should also be able to navigate the landscape of cultural funding bodies and Swedish cultural policy (we think it helps if you speak Swedish!). But above all you should have a passion and curiosity for contemporary choreography and dance, and a strong wish to continue the development at MDT, together with artists, employees and community.
Last application date is Friday 7th June, by e-mail to MDT’s chairperson of board Ylva Gislén: firstname.lastname@example.org
