- Near That Place
“Near That Place” is a work that physically and mentally take you as spectator to a place between yourself and your memories. A place where time is nonlinear and past is present. A work based on the questions of familiarity, identification, security, memory, belonging, returning and nomadism. Concepts that are all surrounding the ideas of a home. A home that is longed for, lived or deliberately left behind in a society where mobility is the norm. With this as a base Daniel AlmgrenRecén & Johan Forsman has departed on a odyssey where the wish to leave behind is intertwined with the longing to return.
- About Daniel AlmgrenRecén
Since 2011 Daniel AlmgrenRecén has been looking in to the notion of home. In 2012 AlmgrenRecén made a performative installation project called “Native Realm – The Notion of Home”. It was a 7000 km long travel by van with all his belongings through northern Europe. In three different places, Gothenburg, Stamsund and Berlin, he moved in to small spaces and became an artist in residence that was residing in his own home while being geographically displaced. The audience could come and visit this permanently temporary home over a coffee and talk with AlmgrenRecén.
For this new work AlmgrenRecén teamed up with Johan Forsman who in his artistic practice investigate spatial constructions, interpersonal agreements, forms of participation and meetings between art and audience. Johan Forsman is also Artistic director & curator at the venue and productionhouse Skogen (former aktör&vänner) in Göteborg, Sweden.
Daniel AlmgrenRecén has a background in sports but then moved on to study classical theatre both in theory and practice and worked as a physical actor before starting to appear in dance contexts. AlmgrenRecén is a graduate from SNDO at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, now working throughout Europe as choreographer, performer and movement coach, with among other Ivana Müller, Keren Cytter, WhiteHorse collective, Deter/Müller/Martini and Ibrahim Quraishi. Together with Manuel Scheiwiller he was running “Gross und Stark” between 2006 and 2010. “Gross und Stark” was a nomadic venue for performance that appeared in different locations throughout Europe.
