Feminine Fun Studies
The duo undertakes a serious study in nonsense, in performing a joke, in looking like fools. They are young and beautiful women. Nobody thinks they are funny. Canned laughter.
Feminine Fun Studies walk the thin line of humor and take being funny to an unexpected place: the female sex. Femme fatale or natural beauty, blonde or brunette, Dolly and Holly, Coyote and Roadrunner or the white academic supertwin – these are the figures that infuse the place down there with their charm and have the vagina take a deep breath. Using stand-up comedy, vaudeville numbers, animated cartoon tricks and classics from the feminist avantgarde, Chuck Morris scores above and below the waistline. The red curtain is drawn: Women and humor are laid bare in the open.
- About Chuck Morris
Chuck Morris is a performance duo working with theory, choreography and performance. It is also a production unit, a generator of experience and a container of knowledge. Chuck Morris perceives the world through the cultural glasses of two white, western, well-educated middle class women. They are not exactly young, but far from being old. Chuck Morris are professional amateurs: Experts in learning things they weren’t expected to be good at in the first place. With every artistic proposition, Chuck Morris learns something new, becoming virtuous in the ability of failing.
The duo found itself 2008 out of the collective practise of Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt and Lucie Tuma, who had met at the Institute of Applied Theatre Science in Giessen University. It is framed as a long-term relationship project within a time frame of the next 20-50 years. It is a continuous research in the figure of the twin, the double body as another kind of collective and a try to dissolve the individual identity of the artist.
