- New Narratives
We are storytellers by nature, creating stories in the course of a day. We say good morning, perhaps good afternoon and definitely goodnight. We are also trying to see our lives in a totality by creating one life story.
But not everything can be storied. There is a huge amount of things that defy interpretation. Sensitivity towards abstraction is also a medium to understand our day, a dance or the sense of our lives.
New Narratives occupies the shared space between stories and abstraction. On the one hand the sweet security of a narrative and on the other hand the continuous flow of ephemeral movements.
New Narratives is the story that our mind unavoidably constructs.
New Narratives is the transcendence that our mind fortunately enjoys.
- About Georgia Vardarou
Georgia Vardarou (Athens 1983) graduated from the State School of Dance (Κ.Σ.Ο.Τ.) (GR) and then from P.A.R.T.S. (BE) with the support of the scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation I.K.Y. During her studies she created, mostly in collaboration, several pieces which toured in several festivals in Europe.
After her graduation in 2008 she started working as a dancer with the choreographer Salva Sanchis and she has been part in various productions of his. She also worked as a dancer with Marc Vanrunxt, Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt and recently with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker/Rosas.
As a choreographer, in 2011, she committed to a piece of research on personal movement and the content that this carries. She created the short solo Hardcore Research on Dance as an outcome. Later, both Marc Vanrunxt and Salva Sanchis created each a short solo for her as a reply to her first solo. The outcome is a solo performance in 3 parts Trigon. Then she choreographed her first full-length group piece Phenomena. Nowadays she is touring with her new creation New Narratives and with Rosas in Golden Hours (As you like it).
Georgia lives and works in Brussels and her work is being produced by Kunst/Werk (K/W).
