- Blue motel
Do you like theatre, pop culture, TV, contemporary art or extreme sports? Then Blue Motell is the space you want to be in!
Lisa Lie’s most recent work “Blue Motell”, is a crossover between a shamanic initiation and an European educational journey. Together with invited artists through her platform PONR (Pony of no Return) – Lisa Lie attracts powerful dreamers from all kind of worlds and dimensions. Characters from cartoons and fairytales, ancient unearthed philosophers, serial killers and suicide victims meet in “Blue Motell”. The performance examines escapism as a positive strategy and as a collective movement. Lie’s style is a choreographic and musical approach to composition.
The narrative is a landscape and the stage is transformed into a site where everything is crucial and vital at all times, where only the abstract and the irrational are taken seriously. In this space you have to flee or give yourself over to the flow of the enhanced energy exchange in the fragile relationship between audience and performers. The composition can be considered as a temporary sculpture or a body, where the audience becomes part of its cycle. You are invited into an amazing universe underlying our common everyday.
Lisa Lie: “The goal is to create an experience that does not end when you leave the performance, but continues within you, and that every performance is affected by those who are present. I want the performance to meet the audience as individuals not as props or as a surface, and to let them draw their own conclusions, as co-creators.?The motel sucks people through the airwaves to use them as batteries – this is where the audience enters. The desert they are pulled through give rise to hallucinations from our collective history and unconscious memory. A place where everything you thought you knew, resurface in a surprising form.?We get used to the existing stories, they are repeated and become our understanding of reality. They give us the feeling that it has always been this way. Lack of awareness prevents us from responding. We see what we have become accustomed to see, and act accordingly. We meet, drink coffee and discuss what has been, not what is. I seek a space where we can build experi- ences together. A room that opens up an everyday consisting of locked associations. By loosen- ing the knots in the stories we reveal that they are constructed. It gives freedom to react. I think theater can be this space.”
