Season opening
MDT opens the spring season of 2021 and we are welcoming you to a streamed conversation between the two artists Ofelia Jarl Ortega and Tova Gerge, with an introduction by MDT’s director Anna Efraimsson.
The presentation of the work StM by Ofelia Jarl Ortega that was originally planned for this date has been cancelled due to the ongoing restrictions limiting public gatherings. We are happy to announce that the performance will be shown in 2022 instead.
This evening’s conversation is not to be seen as “instead of” the performance StM but rather as an extra gem that has sprung out of the current circumstances as well as the artists’ interests. Not only is the event opening the spring season of 2021, it also constitutes an opening to a strand of contextual textures that we aim to weave around the choreography and dance program at MDT going forward.
Tova Gerge and Ofelia Jarl Ortega have been exploring similar themes artistically. They have both been working with power dynamics, pleasure and risk on stage, and they are both interested in the responsibilities and possibilities that come with such practices. The last few years, they have started to share thoughts about their work with each other.
We invite you to listen to a small excerpt from their ongoing conversation about intimacy, care and art: about what the ethics do to the aesthetics and about what it means to negotiate for real on stage.

The streamed conversation will go live February 12th at 7pm. Find the link at the top of the page.
- About the participants
Tova Gerge is a writer, performer and project manager. She explores questions of power, body politics and subversive intimacy, and is influenced by activist culture, contemporary dance and game design in her methods. She often works with the collective Nyxxx and the artist-run production plattform Skogen. Recent works that tie in with the themes of the conversation are the novel Pojken (2018) and the cooperations with Britta Kiessling, Someone You Trust and Passivity Rules/Memories of Being Hanged.
Ofelia Jarl Ortega is a Chilean-Swedish choreographer and performer based in Stockholm. Her work centers around vulnerability and femininity, often with a suggestive erotic aesthetic; lately a notion of “voluntary objectification” has been at the core for her investigations. She has a MA in Choreography from DOCH, Stockholm (2014), and her works have been shown at venues including ImPulsTanz (Vienna), MDT (Stockholm), Inkonst (Malmö), Les Urbaines (Lausanne), Manifesta11 (Zürich).
