MDT calls on the political leaders of Sweden to demand a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, to continue to let in the much-needed humanitarian aid into Gaza as quickly as possible and to demand respect for international law and strongly condemn its violations, which have resulted in the massacre, by the Israeli army, of thousands of innocent civilians in Gaza, widely documented and condemned by the UN and Amnesty International.
MDT stands against all violent actions directed towards civilians. We condemn the massacre and hostage-taking, and hold that the suffering of all civilians, Palestinian and Israeli, must end now. We stand against occupation and all forms of colonialism and stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and the people of Gaza, who are at this moment facing mass death and displacement.
We have seen and noted, with horror, that expressing solidarity with Palestine has been falsely synonymized with anti-Semitism. We reject this notion entirely and stand against all forms of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia regardless of where and by whom they are expressed.
We make this statement because we hold that an arts organisation, like ours, exists in a porous relationship with the world, we are shaped by the world as much as we shape and act in it. Our values at MDT, honed by our desire to exist in a free and equal world, instruct us to speak out against discrimination, small and large, and, thus, not to look away and remain silent; civilians must be protected at all costs.
This Wednesday, 29 November, 18:00 to 20:00, MDT commemorates the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People and will host a public reading of The Gaza Monologues at MDT Moderna Dansteatern. In hosting the public readings we join in a global initiative by ASHTAR theater.
We will sell a simple dinner at the event and all proceeds will be donated to ASHTAR Theatre’s Global Giving initiative and other organizations supporting Palestine.
You can read more about ASHTAR Theatre and The Gaza Monologues here.
This event is organized by MDT and Reading edge library.
