An afro-fabulist flight into the future hosted by John-Paul Zaccarini - dragademic and Professor of Shade - on the black studies research vessel The AfroStar Galactica as it journeys through a multi-brown verse of scent, song and pan-sensual, decolonial medicine.
Cabin Crew on this flight include musician/apprentice perfumier Toubab Holmes, anti-gravity artist Lucie Maisha N’Duhirahe, Freddy Houndekindo, and Aurelia Dey. Welcome onboard a foxy, unorthodoxically perfumed performance lecture, infused with the richness of afro-optimistic thought.
Lecture with Marquis Bey
Before the performance on Wednesday 11 December, MDT hosts Theory and the “Self”, a lecture given by Marquis Bey as part of the seminar series "Season of Black Study II". The lecture is presented in connection with The AfroStar Galactica and curated by the research project FutureBrownSpace. From 13:00 to 16:00.
The lecture is free but it is important to book your place here.

*‘Global Majority refers to people who are Black, African, Asian, Brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the Global South, and or, have been racialised as 'ethnic minorities’. The term ‘Global Majority’ responds to the fact that these groups represent the majority of the world's population’. The term was coined by Rosemary Campbell-Stephens MBE, a Black, of African Caribbean descent and heritage, specifically Jamaican parentage, British educator and Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Education, University of London. Campbell-Stephen writes that her ‘identity does not exist in relation to whiteness and transcends my geographic place of birth. I am part of the Global Majority’.
FutureBrownSpace is a weave of Afro-Diasporic practitioners, based in Black Studies, dedicated to creating nourishing spaces for people of the global majority to develop their projects. We fabulate a futuristic black unconscious as an imaginative platform for producing coalitional thought in both separatist and mixed spaces without the interference of neo-colonial noise. A Vetenskaprådet artistic research project based at Stockholm University of the Arts.
