Writing as Choreography: MDT x Ravel
MDT is proud to launch a new collaboration with Ravel, an online publication that treats writing not just as commentary, but as choreography in its own right. Together, we’re exploring how words can move in step with dance—how reflection and review can extend a performance’s life beyond the stage.
In today’s cultural discourse, dance and choreography often remain underrepresented in writing. We believe thoughtful, sustained reflection deserves a central place in the ecosystem of contemporary performance. Writing, when attentive and artistically attuned, becomes a form of care—a way to follow the gestures, intentions, and resonances of a work.
With Ravel, we’re creating space for that kind of writing. For each performance at MDT, Ravel invites three voices from within the field to write in response to the work—not to judge it, but to be in conversation with it.
This collaboration began as a dialogue in late 2024 and marks a continuation of MDT’s commitment to boost choreographic practices—not only on stage, but also in the ways we think, write, and speak about them. We see this partnership as a generous and necessary gesture toward deepening our understanding of dance and the many forms it can take.
