The Circulating Book Project is a project-based course at Stockholm University of the Arts in collaboration with MDT, looking at methods of co-authoring, collaboration and long-term forms of artistic exchange within the performance field. Taking the form of a book as a site of experimentation, groups of two to three participants have been developing circular exchanges over an extended period of time.

The workshops engaged in practices of correspondence, speech, writing, collage and composition to create the book entries; strategies for devising structures to rotate the book; feedback sessions and considerations for how these processes may be exposed or published to a public.

The multiple unfoldings of these collaborations operate beyond the notion of the subject, emphasizing the intersubjective and transindividual. The projects work through intricate and intimate processes that inform, pass through and index thought and mechanisms of working, looking away from modes of authorship and towards methodologies of sharing and exchange.

This public event experiments with the exposure of nine circulating book projects – as traces, scores, translations, and performative situations.

The course/project leaders Litó Walkey, Asaf Aharonson and Gretchen Blegen are based in Berlin, working as interdisciplinary artists in and around books, performance, choreography and dance. They enjoy finding themselves in combinations of working modes that are partly unknown to them. In the last three years they have co-created two circulating books with over thirty accomplices.
