"LIAISONS" is a duet, between a man and a woman, which is trying to facilitate the audience’s gaze in a way that they can consider the male and the female bodies outside of their immediate representations.

“What is erotic? The ability to oscillate between near and far is erotic. In sex, what is erotic is the ability to move between control and relinquishing, between being giver and receiver. It’s the ability to have your sense of self, your self-control, taken away and restored – and to do the same for another person. ” Laura U Marks: Touch

In Marks’ definition of the erotic she bypasses the objectification of the body and focuses on the relation between bodies. She describes the erotic as an oscillating movement that zoom in and out of focus. In my choreographic processing I have translated this into a choreography of the gaze; a zooming between the haptic and the optic look. The dancers zoom in and out of eye contact between themselves and the audience around them. This creates ambiguity and unidentifiable relations. The eyes oscillating between faded and focus. This gaze activates their bodies and initiates the movements. The dancers slide between various concrete, social body compositions that slowly let the audience gaze zoom in and out of focus and let their body engage in the experience and the intake of the work.
