The Nordic Residency Exchange Program 2024 - Erna Ómarsdóttir and Sofia Jernberg

In 2023, choreographer and dancer Erna Ómarsdóttir teamed up with composer and vocal artist Sofia Jernberg for „Notes And Steps From the Underworld“, at the Bode Museum in Berlin. The idea now is to develop that one-off theatrical happening into a new piece. With Ómarsdóttir‘s signature approach to choreography and physical performance and Jernberg‘s unique vocal and improvisational technique, the artists aim at creating an anarchic mixture of movement and soundscape, while questioning and attacking the idea of hierarchy and politics.

The Nordic Residency Exchange Program is a residency network with five major performing arts houses in northern Europe (MDT, Sweden; Icelandic dance festival, Iceland, BoraBora, Denmark; Zodiak, Finland; BIT Teatergarasjen, Norway.) We collaborate on exchanging artists once a year. Every organisation "sends out" an artist based in their country to a partner in the network, and receives an artist from either Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland or Lithuania. These residencies are selected by the partners and can not be applied for.
