OPEN CALL for residency at the store in Hörken
In 2022, five residences will be announced for professional artists in dance, choreography and performance in Hörken, Ljusnarsberg Municipality. The selected residents will use this time as an opportunity to focus on navigating, placing and planning their artistic work. The residency is not purely production based but aims to contextualize, process, clarify and deepen a long-term and sustainable practice for the selected artist(s). You may apply with an ongoing project, or with a broader question about your artistic work and career. The residency is open to both individuals and collaborators who would benefit from a process based residency.
Five one week residences will be offered, spread out over March-September 2022. During each week, we work together through conversations and workshops. Together, we will set your future goals through vision work. Designed and structured exercises will aid in navigating the field nationally and internationally, process subject-specific challenges based on needs such as: artistic process, planning and budgeting, tour adaptation and / or grant applications.
The residence also includes one day of technical coaching with a technical coordinator, the opportunity to go on study visits in the area and the possibility of inviting an external guest with a certain expertise, based on the artist’s needs. It can be a person familiar with a certain subject, with knowledge of certain technology, communication etc. After the end of the residency period, participants write a short reflection on the residency and carry out an evaluation.
To apply to this residency please submit a cover letter (maximum of 1 A4) wherein you describe your practice as well as a short formulation of how this residency could benefit your practice. In addition, please send your CV along with your preferred dates for the residency. All documents should be sent in PDF format. Make sure to state your name on each document.
The following are included in the residence: SEK 12,000 for expenses, round-trip travel to the space, living accommodations, free access to offices and studios, scheduled working sessions with producers and technical coordinator as well as the opportunity to invite a paid guest for a specific session.
The residency begins on Monday and ends on Friday or Sunday. A reference group will read and give feedback during the selection process. The group consists of Mariana Suikkanen Gomes, co-curator and producer at MDT, Sara Selmros, producer at Norrdans and Johanna Ström, Regional dance developer at Dans i Örebro.

About Butiken i Hörken:
The residency is based in a former store, a space of 240 sqm converted into an office and studio in Hörken Ljusnarsberg Municipality. The store has a spacious office with four desks for administrative work and writing. The studio consists of a room of 10×8 meters with wooden floors, access to a dance mat and natural lighting. Accommodation is offered in the house adjacent to the residency. Hörken is easily accessible through public transport by taking the train to Kopparberg or Ställdalen followed by a bus 361 towards Grängesberg Station. The residency space has limited accessibility with staircases to get into the house by all entrances.
