We 11.6.2025, 21:00-22:00, MDT - Studio 2
Beauty and the Beast is a choreographic duo, a fake band, a dance performance, a party, a workshop, a documentary and a lifelong collaboration between the choreographers Amanda Apetrea and Halla Ólafsdóttir. Their art is always about you and them and ALL the love in between. Together they have made the performances Beauty and the Beast (2011), DEAD (2017) and Sälkvinnorna (2023).
The Selkie Poetry Reading is a combination of the poems and songs from the legendary duo in a stripped-down, intimate setting in the basement of MDT at Lustholmen. The Selkie Poetry Reading plays with the contrasts between rawness and fragility, lust and disgust, body and seal (soul). Cutting the crap away and returning to the core they invite you to a pornographic dystopian poetry reading that merges the beauty of darkness and the in-between. The poetry also moves in and out of a mythical landscape where Amanda and Halla shapeshift between seal and woman. They will bring their instruments and some make-up and you just have to lean back, listen and perhaps float weightlessly to the sound of their muffled, dark and epic voices.
The collaboration between Beauty and the Beast is always about friendship and they never work alone. Some of the usual suspects that they have worked with for the past 15 years are: Linnéa Martinsson (Lune), Chrisander Brun, Ester Martin Bergsmark, Kajsa Lisa Larsson, Interim Kultur, Sara Bergsmark, Karin Dreijer, Zhala Rifat, Nadja Hjorton, Elize Arvefjord, Björn Kuajara, Lisen Rosell, Margrét Seema Takyar, Jessyka Watson-Galbraith, Emma Kim Hagdahl, Siri Hjorton Wagner, Iki Gonzalez Magnusson, Emma Tolander, Sidney Leoni, Cornelius, Akiiki, Emmy Apetrea and Shirley Harthey Ubilla.
