- Programme and Ticket Release for Lustholmen and Within Practice. 1-19 June MDT and Skeppsholmen.
Lustholmen is a festival of dance, choreography, music and arts celebrating the start of Summer with lust, life, light!
Lustholmen was the name for Skeppsholmen at the end of the 16th century when it was used recreationally by the first Vasa-Kings, and since last year it is also the name of a festival made by MDT and Anrikningsverket. This year, we’re extending the Lustholmen event into a dazzling three-week programme of dance and choreography, with performances in- and outdoors, on the island and inside the theatre. Once again, MDT is joining forces with Anrikningsverket to offer a fantastic and diverse concert programme, which will also interlace with the Within Practice festival. Within Practice is a festival for contemporary dance practices, workshops, talks and explorative sessions and will happen during the third and last week of Lustholmen.
This year of Lustholmen also includes programming from our island neighbours ArkDes and Kungliga Konsthögskolan (Mejan). We will end with a celebratory bang – the festivities will be culminating with a party on the boat M/s Segelkronan.

- Ofelia Jarl Ortega: "StM - a version"
-
In StM the border between performer and spectator is not a divide but an opening. Here the borderland is a place to talk about the evasive. It is a space that pulses, yields and gives the spectator’s gaze a body.
StM is a solo by Ofelia Jarl Ortega from 2019, where she examines the dramaturgy of the gaze as choreographic material, where the dancer’s voluntary objectification questions the participation of the observer.
In StM – a version, she approaches the topic from another body, still confirming the gaze’s potential as a tool of power. In StM – a version, the same format is at play when the dancer Paolo de Venecia Gile brings new power dynamics at stake, triggering additional readings to the work. By insisting on the format, the core inscribed in the original piece is translated from one performer to the other, allowing new dynamics and interrelations to arise on different surfaces.

Ofelia Jarl Ortega (b. 1990) is a Chilean-Swedish choreographer and performer based in Stockholm. Her work centers around vulnerability and femininity, often with a suggestive erotic aesthetic; where questions around power and group dynamics are at the core for her investigations. She holds a diploma from The Royal Swedish Ballet School (2010) and a MA in Choreography from Stockholms Konstnärliga Högskola (2014). Her works have been shown at venues such as ImPulsTanz (Vienna), MDT (Stockholm), Inkonst (Malmö), Arsenic (Lausanne), and Moving in November (Helsinki). ofeliajarlortega.com

- Your Planet Is Next (Live music)
Your Planet Is Next is the nom de guerre of one Arvid Wretman— multidisciplinary artist, live performer and noisemaker from Stockholm. Since his 2014 debut cassette under the YPIN alias, through two dance music EP:s for Studio Barnhus, this self-proclaimed “Mr. Music” has terrorised us with the most gloriously disturbed electronic funk, all while cultivating his puzzling YPIN persona: part failed pop-star, part extraterrestrial threat. On his first full-length release for Studio Barnhus, emotions range from acidic romance to pure paranoia. Rave, screw, electro and chill vibes are all combined on an album that plays like an exhilarating journey through the mind of a genius gone mad.
- Island afternoon with Royal Institute for Fine Arts, ArkDes and MDT
ArkDes: “Utomhusverket”
Through the lenses of pleasure and the emotional relationships we forge with the spaces we share, Mira Bergh and Josefin Zachrisson’s secluded pleasure garden for Utomhusverket 2022 challenges tendencies to neutral public space. Their artificial garden establishes space for visibility and invisibility, trysts, assignation, and play.
Utomhusverket is ArkDes’s annual summer outdoor installation. Each commission stitches the spaces of the museum to the streets of the city by way of a large-scale outdoor installation, creating a testing ground that makes room for architects and designers to imagine new possibilities for public life. Each iteration seeks to demonstrate the potential of inclusive and design-driven public space, enabling individual and collective action in the heart of the city.KKH: “Sea-Fearers & Glitch Witch Gathering in Haunted Times”
For the LUSTHOLMEN festival, teachers and students from KKH’s Mindepartementet present “Sea-Fearers & Glitch Witch Gathering in Haunted Times.” a series of artistic presentations inspired by a sailing adventure on Skeppsholmsgården’s ship ‘Shamrock.’ The installations and performances draw on explorations into topics such as the military history of Skeppsholmen and processes such as artistic inflections of LARP (Live Action Role Play). These events are the culmination of artistic laboratories that have researched the entanglement of artistic practice and war through technological tools, strategies of communication between the past and the future, and interactions between the human and non-human. There will be several site-specific happenings on the island, including a procession to escort visitors from one location to another.
Stina Nyberg at MDT: “Make Hay While the Sun Shines”.
End the afternoon at MDT where we are showing Stina Nyberg’s Make Hay While the Sun Shines.
- Stina Nyberg: "Make Hay While the Sun Shines"
-
“All that you touch You Change. All that you Change Changes you. The only lasting truth Is Change.” ― Octavia E. Butler, Parable of the Sower
Make Hay While the Sun Shines is a series of dances which maps the dancing movements of our histories. The dance performance engages in time specific and partial views, the uncategorized details that pre-exists the whole, and the chaos called reality. Stemming from a movement practice based on disharmonious change, a dance which might be more like life itself is created: irregular, fascinating, unsuccessful, stumbling, loving and pretty unpredictable.
This performance of Make Hay While the Sun Shines is a new dance in the series, with an extended cast of eight dancers and music by KABLAM.
Make Hay While the Sun Shines also exists in the format of a short film and a publication. With the dance and the conversations (the written and the spoken) we want to welcome all our histories into the room.

- Liz Kinoshita: "11 O'clock"
-
In her new creation, Liz Kinoshita reaches into her mechanisms of the musical research for this performance to focus on one particular mechanism, the ’11 o’clock number’. Traditionally found in musicals as the second to last number wherein a protagonist makes a pivotal realisation through a soliloquy-like address, the 11 o’clock number generally has plenty of emotion, conviction, drive and heart.
Historically it can be a show-stopper or a melancholic reflective moment. Liz has an interest in how we conduct ourselves, and what power there is in listening to and observing each other’s methods for dealing with today’s quandaries… Do we pray, do we indulge, do we lash out, do we acquiesce? The title 11 O’clock lends itself to the conation of the 11th hour, of impending catastrophe, of an immediacy and directness, to be delivered on stage. Némo Flouret, Irene Occhiato, and Liz Kinoshita dance, sing originally composed lyrics, and play trumpet through this hour-long performance, with music from Belgian trumpet player Bart Maris, among others. As always Liz strives to make performance in which the audience feels addressed and energized. 11 O’clock aims to come face to face with our truths through dance, song and direct rhetoric.

- Linda Blomqvist: "DUENDE"
-
DUENDE is those moments when something out of the ordinary becomes present. A state that is tangible yet tricky to describe, as it exists outside of language. It’s the magic that can occur in an aesthetic experience when everything feels amplified, elevated and fully present in the moment. Duende is a place of tension and release. It’s an introspection that expressively moves outwards and oscillates swiftly between dark and light, high and low, soft and hard…
DUNEDE affirms the capacity of dance and music to convey emotions and stories. It explores the relation and discrepancy between the singular and the collective, the personal and the political. It’s a collective creation of personal stories, a practice of tapping into emotions and of letting emotions move through and out of oneself – through dance, music and communion.

- Malin Elgán: "Untitled"
-
“Untitled” takes place outdoors, near the theater, from early evening until night. A number of dancers participate through simple or more complex dances and the like, in a relatively arbitrary order. Without specification, but among trees, bushes, gravel and possibly some fences, what we see, hear or otherwise experience becomes part of an experience where things are both similar to what we know and not. A crossing between far and near, visible and invisible, light and darkness makes room for the divided and the indefinite at the same time. It’s about how dance is created and takes place in relation to the commons.

Malin Elgán is a choreographer and artist, based in Stockholm and active internationally. Elgán takes an interest in art beyond the genre-specific and operates through an expanded choreographic practice – through various expressions, formats and media. She does not let dance be limited to certain movements and places. Rather she takes dance out of its usual contexts to enable new meanings.
Her work has been performed on stages such as MDT, Dansens Hus and Kulturhuset in Stockholm. Her work has also been shown in artistic contexts, in places such as at Moderna Museet, Nationalmuseum and Bonniers Konsthall in Stockholm as well as at Göteborgs konsthall, Nasjonalmuseet and Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, Poppositions in Brussels, Ausland in Berlin and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb.
During 2021 Elgán made the performance Barnformen (MDT, Haninge Kulturhus and Hallen in Farsta, Stockholm) where movements have swapped places from adult dancers to children. The piece is an extension of previous concepts from Formen sa: gör (MDT and Moderna Museet, Stockholm and Göteborgs konsthall and Atalante, Göteborg, 2007) which alternated various shapes, bodies and gestures taken from nature documentaries, feature films and something in the style of folk dance. The film installation Storyboard (Moderna Museet, Sthlm and Tanzfabrik, Berlin, 2009) is also a development of the same work, visualizing the process. In addition, Elgán has also been the guest editor for a special edition of the art magazine Paletten, which was temporarily renamed Baletten. In 2013, her choreographic practice was awarded the Birgit Cullberg grant.

- Lustholmen + Within Practice Closing Party
-
We are ending the festivals Lustholmen + Within Practice with a celebratory bang – an end of festival party on the island, at the boat M/S Segelkronan. Anrikningsverket has curated the music program.
Lineup
bas bleau (DJ)
Golin (live)
Oli XL (DJ)Oli XL
After slowly becoming a key voice in the leftfield club sphere and appearing in compilations on leading experimental music outfits PAN and Posh Isolation, Oli XL vastly expanded the world of his already distinguished sound with the critically acclaimed debut album “Rogue Intruder, Soul Enhancer”, released in 2019 on Stockholm record label Year0001. With a dissected free-hand approach to the rhythms of the UK rave continuum, he pairs fragmented sampling techniques with personal field recordings & processed vocals—resulting in a bizarre but emotionally rich musical universe recalling the playfulness of Basement Jaxx as much as humourless glitch.
Following a small set of vocal-driven live shows diving deeper into the album’s pop sensibility, Oli has as the first-ever Swedish artist spent the last year carefully crafting a new collection of music for the seminal Warp Records.
Golin
Golin is an Amsterdam-based, Japanese-American artist, singer, producer, classically-trained pianist and performance artist. Passionate and oddly baroque in its digital zeitgeist, Golin’s work blurs the lines between mainstream pop and experimental electronic music Her unique perspective informs her approach to music, mediating contemporary experiences of cultural and physical displacement, taking the form of euphoric J-pop hallucinations.
Golin first appeared with the self-produced debut EP ‘Momo’ in 2017, continued in 2018 by ‘Fushigi’, a collaborative EP with Belgian producer Buga released on Shanghai’s Genome 6.66 Mbp. Following a two-year residency at Brussels cultural house Beursschouwburg and a year as part of the European SHAPE network’s platform, the CalArts-trained dancer’s most recent EP ‘Crush’ was released in October 2020.
bas bleau
bas bleau is a Stockholm-based producer, composer and DJ. In 2021 she released the debut EP ”SOMA” via London imprint Cherche Encore, along with experimental mixes for Threads Radio, RTM and TUKIO among others. bas bleau’s music is characterised by liquid rhythms and wet melodies, fluidly moving between dark wobbly bass, dynamic percussion and shiny textures, in sharp and playful tension.

- Erik Linghede & Yared Tilahun Cederlund: "SUNRISE"
-
First of all, SUNRISE is an adventure and a pleasurable experience! It is about waking up early, or not going to bed. Meeting up just before sunrise to enjoy a special moment together in the summer night. It’s about curiosity, tingles and experiencing something new.
SUNRISE is a headphones-based concert created for a specific location during the break of dawn. Framed with a custom-made soundtrack, this is choreographing a view and that which is already in motion. Our surroundings come to life, into new colours, and we experience our feelings and thoughts change towards the everyday world we are used to.
In creating SUNRISE, the artistic team has switched to working night shift and created the musical landscape specifically for the place and view at the first hour of dawn. The same time which you will be witnessing the concert.
There will be breakfast and coffee!
Duration: 40-50 minutes
Welcome, breakfast and coffee: From 2.30 – 03.00
